Bowie Knife

With a sigh of relief, the ranger stretched his sore back muscles and leaned against a large tree, his pale grey eyes surveying the great plains in front of him as dawn peeked over the grasslands. Tipping his hat, the rugged frontier man covered his face from the rising sun and took his first genuine rest in three days, fatigue taking over his body after the hunt of a lifetime. As he slipped into sleep, the frontier man was assaulted by vivid dreams of his epic duel with the beast, the roaring bear charging with its bloody claws, man-eating jaws aiming for his neck, thinking it could feast on the ranger as it did with the last five humans that felt before its hunger.

The hunter twitched in his sleep, his fingers grasping for his shotgun, finding it missing. The bear had knocked it from his hands with a swipe of its mighty paw, leaving Walt scrambling for his life, pinned by the massive animal. He was saved by the most simple and most loyal tool, his sturdy hunting knife. In a moment of despair and fear-induced rage, he managed to take hold of the horn-carved handle and, with strength that could only be matched by a man facing his own mortality, he sank the foot-long chunk of sharp steel in the monster's neck. As soon as the bear died, the memory faded, and the rugged rander finally found peace in his dreams. He slept for a few hours, the bearskin hanging from a thick branch nearby, drying in the morning sun, waiting to be turned into a worthy trophy for the hunter.

Inspired by American legend Jim Bowie, this large hunting knife is a latex and foam reproduction with a horn-styled handle made for LARP and other thematic events. Dark Moon’s Nailed Club is an apocalyptic classic. Sculpted and handpainted to look like a 4x4 wood stick, this 85 cm long latex club has a 20 cm handle wrapped in soft brown split-leather. The end of the club is sculpted to look like nails sticking out of the wood, dangerous for zombies and people alike.

Epic Armoury’s Seax knife is a very utilitarian knife, with a flat single edged, 38 CM blade ending in a very sharp tip. It has no cross-guard, but does have a fine coreless pommel, that has a very form fitting hand grip that is very akin to modern kitchen knives. The, relatively, simple design of the Seax makes it a weapon that is perfect as secondary for any number of LARP characters, simple but effective without drawing much attention to itself. • Typically seaxs were double bladed, but single bladed designs did exist and it would be some of the most common designs that would carry the designation Seax.

A scarlet blur of swagger and panache, the dashing swashbuckler jumped from the balcony, landing on the shoulder of the statue of her Excellence the Empress herself, a good fifteen feet above the ground. Around the monument, palace courtiers and festive diplomats were laughing and clapping at the display of skill, convinced they just witnessed the surprise show of an impromptu acrobat. They quickly realized it wasn't exactly a planned event when a group of ironclad imperial guards reached the balcony, huffing and puffing under their plate armour. As they tried to strike the crimson outlaw with their halberds, it became clear this sword-bearing newcomer was some sort of intruder. Not losing a second, the nimble outlaw kissed goodbye to the armed guard before jumping from the statue's shoulder, using the stone Empress exaggerated dress rump as a ramp before landing with a pirouette in the middle of the assembly.

Up on the balcony, the guards were pushed aside by a red-faced and outraged Empress, dishevelled as she just got out of bed. She screamed in anger and injured ego: ''How dare you?! No one refuses the Empress! Arrest this ungrateful scoundrel!'' She ordered, spurring a few prideful nobles to draw their rapier and attempt to stop the nimble fleeing fencer. Apologizing in advance, the swashbuckler freed a long fencing dagger and a matching arming sword, before methodically destroying both the nobles' ego and their fancy clothes as they bit the dust, uninjured but out of commission. With a taunting reverence, the agile duellist turned toward the Empress and screamed, a giggle in the voice; ''I am quite sorry my dear, but I prefer to go with no strings attached. I am sure you will find another pretty face to join your so-called musketeers''. And with a stunning smile, the adventurous insolent escaped through the gardens, leaving the Empress dealing with a small court scandal on top of her bruised pride.

DETAILS

The Trench Bowie is the knife that resembles an old hand-me-down. Modelled on the utilitarian and uncouth trench knives of World War I, this foam dagger combines the crude shape of a Bowie knife with the unadorned utility of a knuckle guard. It’s the sort of tool you’d expect to find clutched in the hand of a mercenary, a scavenger, or anyone who’s had to scrap their way through a rough world.

At 46 cm overall length, it's small enough to keep with you, yet big enough to do some good. The sawback edge on the clip-point blade provides grit and visual texture without compromising safety. The worn-wood-textured handle, with a worn-wood feel between the fingers, is wrapped in distressed brass, and the four knuckle guard finger holes give it a big, intimidating profile. It has character and grit, even when it's just riding on your belt.
