Captain Leg Protection - Light Kit

Epic Armoury's Captain Leg Protection - Light Kit brings full leg coverage to Polyurea (PU), guarding the thigh and knee at a fraction of the steel original. This pair of leg plates follow the same logic as the forged version, with a knee that carries a ridged and riveted border and a pointed fan to turn blows away from the joint, all linked by riveted bands down the leg.

Because it is molded rather than forged, the weight drops dramatically, making it ideal for long event days, junior fighters, and performers who want the steel look without the strain. Full grain leather straps with metal buckles secure each section, with a top strap that attaches to your belt and extra straps at the knee to lock it in place, and it pairs with the rest of the Captain range, including the Captain Cuirass, Pauldrons, Gorget, Arm Protection, and Belt Shields.

Fit, adjustment & care

• The strap system handles most sizing on its own, but for a closer fit, you can gently reshape the material itself using heat. Apply heat to the inside of the piece rather than the painted exterior, so the material becomes flexible without damaging the finish.
• Finish: The base material underneath the painted surface is black, so over time, scratches and general wear may reveal this black color underneath.
• Easy touch-ups: Minor cosmetic damage, such as scuffs or scratches can be simply repaired at home using a primer and acrylic hobby paints (such as Army Painter or Citadel).
• Leather care: The leather straps should be maintained like any other full-grain leather product, with occasional conditioning to keep them supple and long-lasting.
• A living finish: Wear and patina are a natural part of your armor's lifecycle and can be expected with regular use, adding to the authentic, battle-worn character of the piece.

A Polyurea (PU) reproduction of our mild steel Captain Belt Shields, giving you the same proud, sovereign silhouette at a fraction of the weight. Designed to hang over the outer thigh and protect the upper leg without restricting movement, it slides onto your belt using the full grain leather loops and adjusts for a comfortable fit. A final layer of protection that reads as blackened steel from across the field.

Epic Armoury’s Dark Drake Upper Leg are tassets designed to protect the thigh and groin. The style is late medieval with rolled edged metal plates overlapping each other. Two sets of steel plates hang from the hips to cover the outer thighs. A third set of slimmer plates cover the groin area and provide some protection to the inner thighs. The set comes with a leather belt with suspenders to keep the piece in place. Each plate is treated with Epic Armoury’s Epic Dark Metal coat, which gives the armour a rugged, antique finish which matches its reptilian scale design.

The Dark Drake Upper Leg armour is designed to match Epic Armoury’s Dark Drake Armour, but is fully usable with other Epic Armoury metal products, giving you the freedom to customize your character’s costume. Epic Armoury’s Mercenary Tassets are reminiscent of the typical pikeman armour of the late medieval and renaissance era. The piece consists of three broad metal plates overlapping each other to provide laminate protection for the hips and upper thigh. The tassets leave the pelvis somewhat unprotected, and normally a cod-piece would be added to protect the groin area. The tassets are secured in place with leather cords.

The Mercenary Tassets are designed to match Epic Armoury’s Mercenary Armour, and are the only tassets not fully interchangeable with other Epic Armoury metal products. Rounded at the edges and decorated with scale-like ridges, these demi-greaves are designed to sit comfortably over the shins while leaving room for poleyns to cover the kneecaps. They reach from below the knee and narrow around the ankles, secured with a top-grain leather straps below the knee and another above the ankles. The armour is made from rolled mild steel treated with Epic Armoury’s Epic Dark Metal coat, which gives the armour a rugged, antique finish.

DETAILS

Epic Armoury’s Gothic Leg Protection consists of cuisses to protect the lower thighs, articulated poleyns covering the knees, and half demi-greaves protecting the upper shins and sides of the calves. The poleyon knee-cups are articulated, composed of four overlaying plates and fitted with a projecting heart-shaped plate adding cover to the notoriously under-protected hamstring. This armour piece is held up via straps tied to the wearer’s belt and held in place via guiding straps around the thighs and calves.

The Gothic Arm Protection is made from mild steel with rolled edges that form ridges around the rims. The design is historically inspired by the renaissance, but the style and functionality is fully interchangeable with other Epic Armoury armours, allowing freedom to combine armours and customize a character’s looks to fit your needs.
