It sticks out about 40mm retracted and 100mm extended, and although it can be withdrawn completely it may feel awkward.
Drinking and talking are both possible but talking is hindered and the pronouncement of some words will be slurred. It will sound like someone with a speech impediment. Some dribbling may occur with both operations. It can be worn comfortably for long periods of time. It can also be reused. Just wash with warm soapy water.
