Gladius III - The Colosseum

The Gladius, Latin for sword, was used by the Romans between the 4th Century B.C. and the 2nd Century of the current era. Its length was traditionally between 64cm and 81cm and was decorated with either the Imperial Eagle or with the images of Romulus and Remus (who were nursed by a she-wolf according the Roman legend of the foundation of Rome). 

Several examples of Gladius swords were found in the town of Pompeii which was destroyed by a volcanic eruption that also preserved the forms of Pompeiians and their weapons. 
This well-balanced sword bears the Roman wolf symbol upon it with silver, black, and bronze coloring. Reinforced with a fiberglass core, this foam weapon is safe for LARP combat and ideal for imperial soldier characters, guards, and mercenaries.

The Aquila, or Roman Eagle, is the standard of any government that harkens to the supposed golden Roman era, and can be found being rarefied in any nation that regularly deifies its military leadership and the military-industrial complex.

Legend

Androcles Falto had been trained, since childhood, to become a great warrior. He had received difficult training which had made him the man he was today. Many had been the temptations and opportunities to commit evil, but his righteousness had become a local legend.

Today he would receive the sword that marked the end of his training and his appointment as a centurion. He knew his immediate appointment as head of a centuria would raise questions. He himself wondered why he had ever been raised to a command rank. Only time will tell, but he had no intention of being intimidated by the members of his centuria. He was now an armed, dangerous, and powerful man …

The anatomy of the sword, typical of Hispaniensis-type gladius, features a steel-colored oversized pommel (obviabis) with copper details, a reddish boiled leather-like hilt, and a finely crafted rounded hilt of copper details.

Obviously, this sword is ideal for characters of Roman origin such as a centurion, a legionary who would have inherited the weapon, or even a consul at the head of a legion.

DETAILS

Epic Armoury’s Roman Sword is a classic latex weapon inspired by the Ancient Roman legionnaires. The 65 cm double-edged blade has a central ridge and narrows toward the crescent-shaped crossguard. Sculpted and handpainted, the detailed crossguard protects the 13 cm split-leather handle. A fish-tail pommel caps this sword, painted to match the crossguard.

Made from durable closed cell foam around a fibreglass core and finished with a strong latex coating, you can feel confident that your LARP weapon will provide the safety and appeal you want when crafting your Roman-inspired kit.
