- Particularly popular with light-footed fighters during the Renaissance and Baroque eras
- Used the Shield Boss--the round, convex piece of material at the centre of the shield--to deflect blows
Protect your noggin from a floggin!
Oh no, you think, as a sword and a Ready for Battle Helmet are thrust into your farm-calloused hands. You’ve never been trained as a soldier, let alone asked to fight on a dangerous battlefield!
But here you are, suddenly standing in a row of your neighbors. You await the advancing orc raid said to be headed for your farms and your town, and you just hope that somehow you’ll make it through. At least your Helmet feels solid on your head. That’s something to be thankful for, at least...right?
DETAILS
Ready for Battle Helmet is an essential for any person intending to experience the battlefield. Considered to be one of the most important pieces of armor, this helmet is inspired by 12th century design used by the Crusaders. Its simple design allows this helmet to be used perfectly in a variety of different genres and character-types. Made of 1 mm thick mild steel and top-grain leather straps and fittings, these armour is built to withstand the abuse of a LARP or reenactment with regular leather and metal armour care.
HISTORY
- Also referred to as a “cervelliere,” introduced during the late 12th century
- Pointed shape reminiscent of later “cervelliere” designs toward the 13th century
- Worn by commoners and non-professional soldiers due to its cheap and easy production
- Worn either alone or over a chainmail coif to protect the throat
The sword sits in the baldric hanging down from your shoulder, faithful to its master despite the challenges. It has been a long and dusty road--and your uniform down to your Landsknecht Pants is covered in dirt and grime--but that sword has remained at your side through it all.
As your infantry unit comes to a halt, there is the tension one always feels before the fight. You resist the anxiety, because the moment you step into battle all of that must fade away. It will be you fighting alongside your fellow soldiers, and it will be the sword hanging in your trusted baldric that keeps you alive.
DETAILS
Epic Armoury’s Landsknecht Pants are styled leggings with baggy thighs and vertically cut colours, most often associated with the wealthy men and German Landsknecht mercenaries of the Renaissance period. Made from durable light canvas and soft cotton lining, these pants are extra wide above the knees before mimicking leggings, easily fit inside your boots and leg armour. Adjust the fabric around the calves by tightening its reinforced cotton cord to get the best fit.
The pants are fitted with a heavy cotton cord drawstring and metal buttons at the waist to keep the pants in place while leaving sufficient room for a proper belt. The pants also have pockets.
Please note that there are decorative stitches in the pleating to keep the product in prime condition prior to sale. For comfort and longevity some customers may need to unpick the stitch on the front and side of the thighs.
The Landsknecht Pants are fully compatible with Epic Armoury's other clothes and armours, and the style will fit with a broad variety of characters.
HISTORY
- Worn by the Landsknecht, a colourful and well known mercenary group from Germany during 15th- and 16th-century Europe
- A great way to show off wealth with the excess use of fabric
- Design is similar to the Pluderhose, a 15th century design that fastened at the knee
Chainmail has become popular on the battlefield, protecting soldiers from sharp blades and arrows. But you are clever. A soldier in chainmail has every reason to fear you, because metal ring armour will do nothing against the blunt force of your Footman’s Mace.
While you might be one of the thousands of soldiers on the field, you are still considered a skilled threat with the help of such a mighty weapon.
DETAILS
Epic Armoury’s Footman’s Mace is a low-fantasy latex weapon designed to intimidate armoured knights on the battlefield. The mace is 80 cm with a small 11 cm long flanged head designed to penetrate chainmail and plate alike. Each of the six flanges is 8 cm long and V-shaped, realistically sculpted to appear riveted. The haft is hexagonal with sculpted and handpainted iron bands to serve as optional grips and structural support. Top-grain leather wraps around the 18 cm handle, giving this mace an exceptionally durable grip.
Made from durable closed cell foam around a fibreglass core and finished with a strong latex coating, you can feel confident that your LARP weapon will provide the safety and appeal you want when crafting your kit.
HISTORY
- Flange would have been designed to penetrate armour
- Maces were first designed to cause harm without penetrating armour due to the force of their blows
- Commonly made of iron, but also occasionally copper and bronze
