I buried my father with his sword, so he could bring it to Valhalla.
I kept his Seax.
I always loved the giant sea serpent Jormungand carved in the handle. When I was little, he used to lend it to me so I could pretend I was a valkyrie. It was the only thing I could lift up and it was still pretty heavy. One day while I was playing, I cut myself with it. I didn’t cry. I came back home with blood all over my left leg. He took me in his arms and told me: “Now I get to carry you everytime I go to battle. One day, it shall be yours.” I still feel the grip of this hand on the handle as if the wood carved itself to fit his grasp. My hand is much smaller, but just as strong and just as determined. Now that he’s gone, my brothers alongside him, it is up to me to uphold his memory. It is up to me to finish what he started and fight until Valhalla claims me. The sea shall bring me to my destiny. The wind shall swell the sails of my boat to this new land where my dreams have led me so many times in the past. When I think about who I was, I see the little girl  pretending to be a warrior.
But these times are long gone and time for pretend is over.
I am a Valkyrie.

Weapon, utility knife and multi-purpose tool, the seax or scramasaxe was widely used by the Germanic peoples and more particularly the Scandinavians of the Viking era. Legend

Many years had passed, seeing old wars come to an end and new ones rise. The forest that belonged to Mael’s clan had shrunk, making way for the denser housing that had allowed its growing population to flourish. As his grandchild sat kneeling before him, he tried to remember why he had once thought the refugees would be such a threat but could only see his beloved wife’s eyes in the teen’s face.

“I do not know what the future holds for you but you have grown up strong and capable. You have learned our traditions well, both of our clan and of your grandmother’s ancestors. Your turn has come to walk in your parents’ footsteps and aid in guarding our peace.”

One at a time, Mael opened the folds of fabric and slowly unveiled a dagger. It bore a striking resemblance to his own but had been refashioned to represent the cultures that had come together as one within his lifetime. As he handed the weapon over, the youth’s eyes were bright; Mael prayed that these eyes would not be lost to this new war that drew near.

Legend

Historically speaking, it would seem, some Viking commanders received the title of Hersir. Proud warriors, their prowess were told by the skalds across the land. These leaders had the reputation of organizing, prepare and lead the best assaults on their enemies.

If at the start of the millenium, the title of Hersir included the role of a leader, or military commander, it was later recognized as being a representative of the royalty to the scandinavian communities. “So it the law! By my arm, so is the king’s will!”

The Hersir viking sword is inspired from the universe of Seyrawyn, a work by Martial Grisé and Maryse Pepin. On their lands where many cultures go alongside druids and dragons, only the accomplished viking warriors can carry the sword Hersir, the infamous weapon of the gods’ justice, and the will of the king.

Workshop

The making of the Hersir viking sword again required the experience and innovation Calimacil is known for. Pushing the limits of the possible, the team ended up with a sword of great quality. The guard, of historical inspiration, of this weapon presents engravings depicting the nobility of the dragons. Its wooden handle, sporting 2 engraved metal rings, refines the looks as a whole. On its pommel, a vergvisir, a viking compass will show the way to go to the adventurous. Finally, on the blade and its fantasy-inspired curves, celtic knots melt together into the pattern, giving the Hersir a royal elegance.

Character

The formidable Hersir is made for all ages, young and old! Be you a warrior, a rogue, a dwarf, an elf, an orc, a skaven or even a prince, with this blade in hand, you will be assured to uphold the law wherever you go!

A SHARP TOUCH OF HISTORY

“One of the very best swords anyone in the Northern Lands has carried…”

– The Saga of King Rolf Kraki, chapter 30

Have you ever dreamt of wielding a Viking sword with a historically authentic design? Then your saga is about to begin! The EirikR Sword is made as a collaboration between artisans of Epic Armoury and archaeologists from Lejre Land of Legends. It is designed to match the Osted Sword found in 1887 near the town of Osted in Lejre, Denmark. Due to its pattern-welded blade and the herringbone ornamentation with silver and copper on the crossguard and pommel, archaeologists assess that the sword most likely belonged to a king or a highly esteemed housecarl. As part of our Stronghold Master Collection, the EirikR Sword is a durable, high-quality LARP weapon that adheres to history without compromising safety. A perfect weapon for any Viking roleplayer or historical reenactor, stalwartly standing within mead halls, aboard Viking ships or on the open battlefield. The eyes of the Allfather rest upon you!

“He died before hitting the ground. Mere moments ago, he had been the predator chasing me as I scrambled over my fallen comrades on the battlefield. However, as if the Allfather himself had led my hand to find this lonely sword, our positions had suddenly reversed. As I stood victorious in a hurricane of death, I noticed it was carefully ornamented and made for our jarl. His time as a warlord had ended – and mine had begun.”

The Warlord Sword from Epic Armoury is part of our hybrid range. The blade is designed with a double fuller and comprises a fibreglass core embedded in closed-cell ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) foam coated with pigmented latex. The handle is made of polyurethane (PU) foam and features imitated gold and silver ornamentations loosely inspired by Nordic art from the Scandinavian Viking Age. Thus the sword fits exceedingly well in settings inspired by this historical period. Designwise, the Viking Sword is a fine alternative, also available in a battle-worn version, but if you seek an authentic design based on a real find, we recommend the EirikR Sword instead.

The Armstreet Viking Sword by Calimacil is a foam-crafted adaptation of Armstreet’s renowned etched steel Viking sword.
