Markward Spaulders

The small "Markward" spaulders offer a very good price-benefit relation, great durability because of their strenghtened shoulderparts, and finally, maximum maneuverability!

The gorget of the "Markward" series is not only special because of its rather technical design, it also differs in its construction from conventional plate gorgets. By a flexibly suspended throat element, the size can be varied there. This avoids that the gorget scrubs and presses on the throat. In addition, the two-part gorget was movably joined in the neck area. This also increases the wearing comfort significantly.

The gorget "Markward" is well suited for all armor wearers who value functionality and comfort.

The torso armour "Markward" is a classic cuirass and consists of a chest- and a back plate. The two parts are connected with sturdy leather straps and roll buckles. You can also adjust the size of the torso armour individually. The torso armour does not have its own suspension for spaulders. An additional gorget must be used for such an extension.

With its curved lines and the decorative rivets, this cuirass is ideal for building an armor with a well-wealthy character without becoming ' ostentatious '. It is well suited for knights and officers, but also for successful adventurers and wealthy mercenaries.

It is your duty as a paladin born of noble birth to provide for the less fortunate. Your family does not appreciate the needs of the poor, but you are a beacon of hope and a fighter for justice.

Dressed in your Splint Shoulders and matching armour, you ride into town with much food for all to share. They look to you as a hero...and to be quite honest, you really do look the part.

DETAILS

Epic Armoury’s Splint Shoulders are a set of two simple spaulders. The spaulders feature one solid metal plate with a contoured shape to turn and absorb strikes to the arm. The spaulders are fastened with leather straps around the biceps, as well as a cord at the shoulder which attaches to a breastplate or gambeson. Along the top of the shoulder they are embellished with a scalloped metal and black leather breaker.

The Splint Shoulders are striking in style and match exceptionally well with Epic Armoury’s Splint Bracers and Poleyns. Made of 1 mm thick mild steel and top-grain leather straps and fittings, this armour piece is built to withstand the abuse of a LARP or reenactment with regular leather and metal armour care.

HISTORY

• Plate armour became more popular as firearm technology became more prevalent during the 13th century
• Typically worn over a gambeson for comfort and safety
• Atop the pauldron a vertical plate was called a sword breaker, and was designed to catch and deflect blows before they could impact the head

The model is wearing Splint Bracers, Splint Shoulders, Hourglass Gauntlets and the Imperial Gambeson. The model wearing green is also wearing the green Corazzina Cuirass.

The large, segmented spaulders from Mytholon's  "Elias" series.

The original, typical spaulder has a segment added to it and therefore looks even more impressing. The spaulders are being fixed by a buckle-strap on the gorget, and a single strap under your upper arm.

The gorget is not included and is required when used in conjunction with the rest of the Elias set.

Humidity, expansion and contraction in the heat, UV radiation, rain, and the withering blows of your enemies all conspire to expose your armour to rust, but worse yet, your very own precious bodily fluids conspire to corrode it from the inside with their impurities and corruption! (which is why we only ever drink pure grain alcohol or rainwater)

You could coat your armour (and other metal objects) in a regular run of the mill lubricant, but many of them are actively hydrophobic. Great for metal but terrible for leather, cotton and other organic materials!

Lanox MX4 is a lanolin rich lubricant, and lanolin is the oil that is naturally produced by sheep to prevent them from shrinking in the rain and generally remain weather proof! It is superior to many artificial compounds and does not damage leathers or organic fibres.
