Ulfrik Viking Helmet

The Viking helmet with aventail "Ulfrik" is inspired by helmets from the Vendel period and features the characteristic "goggles" visor. Additionally, it comes with a long chainmail aventail made of 9 mm spring steel rings. Decorative buckles, fittings, and rivets adorn this helmet further.

The padded coif "Leopold" is, like a classic coif, fixed under the chin with two sturdy ribbons of cotton. Under a helmet, it gives this considerably more wearing comfort and protective effect. Of course, it can also be worn as a stand-alone headgear.

The best defence in life means nothing if it is eaten away by time and the elements, or even attacked from the inside.
And so it is with your own armour!
Humidity, expansion and contraction in the heat, UV radiation, rain, and the withering blows of your enemies all conspire to expose your armour to rust, but worse yet, your very own precious bodily fluids conspire to corrode it from the inside with their impurities and corruption! (which is why we only ever drink pure grain alcohol or rainwater)

You could coat your armour (and other metal objects) in a regular run of the mill lubricant, but many of them are actively hydrophobic. Great for metal but terrible for leather, cotton and other organic materials!

Lanox MX4 is a lanolin rich lubricant, and lanolin is the oil that is naturally produced by sheep to prevent them from shrinking in the rain and generally remain weather proof! It is superior to many artificial compounds and does not damage leathers or organic fibres.

Epic Armoury’s Raven Helmet is a skull cap helmet inspired by the spangenhelm of the early medieval period. The beak shaped face guard and metal cheek flaps provide great protection and visibility to the face, while the chainmail aventail provides protection to the neck. Reinforced with rivets, a combed apex, and a steel band around the rim, you can expect this helmet to stand up against any who should stand against you.

Very few things offer greater protective qualities than steel, when it comes to historical armour. But with steel also comes disadvantages like weight, inflexibility and the need for constant maintenance to protect against rust. Nevertheless, in this day and age, unless you are on the re-enactment or SCA battlefield, you simply don’t need the level of protection that steel affords.

We here at Epic Armoury would like to present our Light Kit Edition Armours. Light Kit Armours are armours made out of Polyurethane, meant to resemble authentic metallic armours. Created with weight, comfort and utility in mind, Light Kit edition armours are for those people, who want to look like they are wearing authentic metallic armours while being comfortable.

To the untrained eye, these polyurethane armours are difficult to distinguish from their metallic counterparts.They are, however, more comfortable to wear and can be worn for long periods of time without discomfort. Indeed, the flexible nature of this armour means that it can bend to the contours of your body in a way that rigid steel will not. Each part is a quarter of the weight of their steel equivalent, allowing for faster movement with less fatigue. Each piece is hand painted with a durable acrylic finish and is detailed to look as realistic as possible. Polyurethane armour is a new project collaboration between Epic Armoury and The Knight Shop International designing under the brand names "Red Dragon Armoury" and "Light Kit".

Epic Armoury’s Dreki Helmet is a full helmet that covers the entirety of your face, while maintaining the same nordic inspired, imposing, design that is common for the Dreki set. The riveted steel helmet offers incredible protection, while the angular design gives your profile a distinct look. The large eyesockets offer you improved visibility, whole the lack of a neck guard offers you impressive head movement. The helmet is held secure by a strap running from one side of the helmet to the other, simple without compromising the stability. With overlapping plates, rivets and its lean form, you can feel like a fantasy norsemen, braving the harsh wilderness and slaying ancient dragons among snow covered peaks.

The Dreki set has two colours, the primary being a Matte Polish and the secondary being Epic Dark, to highlight different aspects of the Dreki armour and again show its Nordic inspired roots. Epic Armoury’s Norman Nasal Helmet is a conical skull cap offering basic protection to the head and face. Inspired by the historical helmets worn during the majority of the middle ages, the Norman Nasal Helmet features a decorated nasal plate which runs from the forehead down over the bridge of the wearer’s nose. A ridge runs along the cap to give the helmet additional reinforcement while on the battlefield.

Featuring a cotton inlay, reinforced cap, 10 cm nose plate and chainmail aventail, this helm offers significant protection while also remaining more comfortable and lightweight than a full helm.
