An Ancient Warrior

Epic Armoury’s Black Auxiliary Shield is a semi-curved shield taken from the ancient world of Roman legionnaires. Take up your oval shield and prepare to fight beside your fellow soldiers, relying on its 90 cm length to protect against wayward spears and arrows. Convince your friends to get their own and form a devastating shield wall!

The Black Auxiliary Shield is made of EVA foam and is handpainted with a glossy black finish and a metallic rim. The rim is sculpted to look like real iron, complete with small nail heads. The details continues on the backside, with a faux-metal rim around the reinforced punch grip. This grip is 14 cm long and wrapped in suede leather for a comfortable feel that can be used left- or right-handed! Keep your shield in great condition with regular latex maintenance.

Fight in Formation

• Similar to an early Roman scuta, which was later developed into a rectangular shape
• The typical oval or rectangular scuta were dramatically concave, which offered a lot of protection while making the use of weapons somewhat difficult due to restricted arm movement
• The Shield Boss--the round, convex piece of material at the centre of the shield--was used to deflect blows

SAVAGE SAFEGUARD

Taking inspiration from the semi-curved kite shaped shields used by the Normans of the early Middle Ages, the Maurauder Kite Shield works just as well for a goblin invader or a brutal orc from a high fantasy realm as it would for a battleworn European knight from the ninth century or a pillaging Viking.

Crafted from durable closed cell foam and coated with latex, this shield is more than ready for LARP battle. Epic Armoury’s Drow shield is a large shield inspired by heater shields used for jousting in the 15th century. A hand painted black center with gold edges and a white heraldy mimics a traditional elven heraldry design. The rim is detailed to look like golde metal. While the design is simple, this Drow Shield is evocative of elven curvatures with its organic design and oppressive colour scheme.

Wear this Drow Shield left-handed with the use of three leather arm straps on the back, secured through hard EVA foam for a reliable and solid grip made to last. Feel confident that this latex shield will withstand the continued abuse of a LARP with regular latex maintenance.

RAMSHACKLE GEAR

Taking its inspiration in the shape of the crescent-like shields used by the Peltasts in Ancient Greece, Epic Armoury’s Raider Shield is a half-moon shaped shield designed with ruinous raiders and warmongers in mind. Sculpted and hand painted, one side shows of a hammered metal finish, the other a smooth dark surface. To give the shield a used look rusty effects have been added, and triangular rivets around the edges help give the impression, that this shield has been modified and reinforced using scavenged materials. The two rings pierced through the top corner of the shield are great details that adds to its character and makes this product distinguishable from most other shields. .

HOW TO PAINT ON EPIC ARMOURY'S UNPAINTED SHIELDS:

Paint the shield using Acrylic paints specifically designed for going over flexible Latex
When the paint is completely dry, coat the shield using a flexible, clear latex varnish such as Liquitex, or a flexible clear sealant such as liquid Plastidip. Apply using a quality brush, airbrush or spray gun to create a thin layer.
We recommend an outter layer of silicone to ensure smoother blows from opponents which will cause less damage to your paint work in the long run.
