Very few things offer greater protective qualities than steel, when it comes to historical armour. But with steel also comes disadvantages like weight, inflexibility and the need for constant maintenance to protect against rust. Nevertheless, in this day and age, unless you are on the re-enactment or SCA battlefield, you simply don’t need the level of protection that steel affords.

We here at Epic Armoury would like to present our Light Kit Edition Armours. Light Kit Armours are armours made out of Polyurethane, meant to resemble authentic metallic armours. Created with weight, comfort and utility in mind, Light Kit edition armours are for those people, who want to look like they are wearing authentic metallic armours while being comfortable.
To the untrained eye, these polyurethane armours are difficult to distinguish from their metallic counterparts.They are, however, more comfortable to wear and can be worn for long periods of time without discomfort. Indeed, the flexible nature of this armour means that it can bend to the contours of your body in a way that rigid steel will not. Each part is typically a quarter of the weight of their steel equivalent, allowing for faster movement with less fatigue. Each piece is hand painted with a durable acrylic finish and is detailed to look as realistic as possible. The maintenance free finish will not rust like steel does and can be worn in all kinds of weather. Adjustable leather straps and the flexible nature of the armour allows it to be comfortably worn. This Mercenary Light Kit Cuirass is inspired by Medieval mercenaries and era typical armour.

This armour is perfect for a variety of uses such as LARP, Cosplay, Costume Parties or Theatre.

Polyurethane armour is a new project collaboration between Epic Armoury and The Knight Shop International designing under the brand names "Red Dragon Armoury" and "Light Kit".

This gambeson is very thick and durable. It is perfect for heavy armour or just for dressing your character.

You strap your armour over your Warrior Gambeson, preparing for battle. You will never tell them which stories might be true, but they can see for themselves your battle prowess once you step onto the field and dominate once more.

DETAILS

Epic Armoury’s Warrior Gambeson is a padded long-sleeve coat covering the torso from neck, down over the hips on front and back. It can be worn on its own or serve as essential padding under mail or armour. The gambeson is donned like a jacket and closed on the front with five leather straps and brass buckles, allowing the wearer to customize the tightness of the fit. The arms are easily detachable by untying its cotton cords on the shoulders and sleeves, each cord secured through long-lasting brass eyelets.

Thick enough to serve as its own armour, this sturdy gambeson is constructed with heavy layers of fluffed cotton canvas sandwiched between layers of heavy cotton canvas. All these layers are stitched together in vertical lines, keeping the padding in place and mimicking a classic European high-medieval style.

Though of European cut, gambeson or quilted-style armours have seen world-wide use since antediluvian times, making the Warrior Gambeson a great basic armour with a range of possibilities regardless of time and place.

Available in Black, Brown, Beige and White; and in sizes Small, Medium, Large, X-Large, XX-Large, 3X-Large and 4X-Large.

HISTORY

• Quilted armours have been around since at least 400 BCE
• Used as padding under chainmail or plate armour
• Historically, a high-medieval European gambeson was recorded as being capable of stopping sword blows from penetrating the skin
• Could stop heavy arrows and mace and axe impacts with the addition of overlaying chainmail
• Specific style often worn by freemen, mercenaries, and other independent warriors

This cotton twill product is diagonally woven fabric similar to denim. It is quite sturdy, built to take some abuse.

Cleaning

Remember to wax the leather straps before putting in a washing machine or dryer. If you are able to hand wash and leave your gambeson to dry flat, this is preferable.

Machine wash at 40°C / 104°F (warm). Wash separately the first time and with similar colours afterwards. Tumble dry on low heat, but be aware that it might shrink up to 5%. For general stains or discoloration, treat with a commercial fabric cleaner, or blot with tepid water and a soft cloth.

These are the matching greaves from Mytholon's "Arthur" series.

The greaves are backstiched in diamond-shapes and therefore very flexible when moving. The padding-effect is not neglected, but instead maximized by a plus in material. The two buckle-straps allow an individual adjustment to the wearers bods.
