You’re the first to spot the sails o’ a ship on the horizon, and so the chase begins. You and your crewmates have a reputation as the most formidable pirates on the sea, and it’s time to defend your title.

You board the merchant’s ship with your cutlass at the ready. They have heard o’ your flag before, and so they be surrendering smartly. Good. This be easy loot! You and your crew pack what plunder you can find before a Royal Navy ship can come along, but as you pass the miserable captain you notice his tricorne hat. The hat is your share o’ the profit with a simple snatch from the man’s head.

Epic Armoury’s “tricorne” Pirate Hat is handmade from natural full-grain quality leather and sturdy stitching, embellished with cotton canvas and laced leather around the brim. Inspired by popular 18th century hats of the time, its brim is turned up and pinned to form a triangle around the crown with leather lacing. Oh, so many new faces, new recruits to train! All young men and a few women try their utmost to become musketeers, to serve the King. It is my duty to choose the strongest, noblest and most elegant of them, and to transform them into respected gentlemen that will give their life for the country.

My time of adventuring has long passed. I’ve seen my share of diplomacy, and of war. But I could not simply go into retirement. I wanted to leave something behind, to serve my King once again. That’s why I became a teacher, an instructor, and all the new recruits come before me. I doubt that some will become as legendary as the former musketeers, but I will do all I can for them to try, sword in hand!

Workshop

This new rapier introduces a new handle to Calimacil’s arsenal. The black handle is ornate with golden details and flowery patterns while the blade is steel-coloured. The blade is flexible enough to allow thrusting blows without danger. The guard is, like the rest of the weapon, made from our safe Calimacil foam, so it will bend but not break for a great durability. The whole sword is incredibly realistic, making it perfect for historic reconstitution and LARP alike.

As the pirate ship begins to launch their grappling lines, you reach for your Boarding Axe. You’ve used this as a tool aboard the ship, but it now comes in handy as you sever a grappling line in twain. Screams of fright fill the air as the boarding pirates fall into the watery depths.

Epic Armoury’s Boarding Axe is a heavy 62 cm axe designed for sailors and swashbucklers. It has an axe-blade with a 15 cm blade, and along with its spike, it is great for both attacking your enemy and chopping down doors when attempting to commandeer a ship! The short hooked axe head is hand painted to look like real metal (although it is made of soft foam), and is attached to the handle designed to look like weathered wood.

• The first hafted axe was created about 6,000 B.C. using birch-tar and raw-hide lashings to fix the blade to its handle

Hours inside the dungeon and you only manage to find one measly copper, despite all the monsters you’ve put to rest. Today is just not your day.

While imitation leather boots are more weather resistant than ungreased leather boots and do not so quickly soak in the rain, please note that Prescotts are costuming quality boots and are not designed for long use in combat conditions.

Not only do we hand make and inspect each set of ears, we try to use the highest quality materials we can find. Often on the road we are told our ears last for years of use, with some people coming back with the same ears after 6-7 years of wearing them!  You can attach these ears with spirit gum or liquid latex (personally we recommend spirit gum). The seam lines can be blended with latex or hidden with the use of an ear cuff as shown in the picture.

These are handcrafted in our home studio, by the artists of Aradani, with attention to detail and quality. 

Aradani Studios was founded in 2002 by the Bielaczyc siblings, Michael, Paul and Sara. Their original intention was to work at the Tennessee Renaissance Festival as a part-time endeavor, a way for them to spend time together and have some fun selling artwork. So many people were interested in Paul's elven costume, particularly the pointed ears, that the they decided that they would add elf ears to the business. The following weekend, the Bielaczyc's began what Aradani Studios is best known for: hand-painting elf ears to blend in naturally with people's skin tone.

What began as a once a year activity for the brothers expanded in 2003 to include three Renaissance festivals and multiple conventions around the country. During this time, Aradani Studios carried a variety of other brands, but didn't manufacture any of their own products. However, with customers requesting custom prosthetics at every show, they decided it was time to expand.

Starting early in 2005, they began sculpting and producing their own line of prosthetics, by 2007, over 90% of the products they sold were created in house, made and manufactured in Nashville, Tennessee. Customers all over the world have enjoyed Aradani elf ears and masks.

Aside from latex prosthetics and jewelry, Michael and Paul Bielaczyc are acclaimed fantasy artists, winning awards all over the country and working for companies such as Dragonlance and Apex Digest. Their work can be seen in shows across the Southeast and various publications.

This type of helmet was called "cervelliere" (scull cap) and introduced in the 13th century and was supposed to be worn underneath a great helmet in addition to the coif of mail.

Getting out of style in the 14th century, they became popular in the 16th century again, when worn by lansquenets under their felt or leather hats.

This simple model has a big opening for the face and a central crest along. The neck is enlongened to offer better protection to this area. The back part is decorated with two rows of rivets.

AVAST YE, SCALLYWAG!

Screeching gulls circled above our heads as we made our way to the coast. Our coats were no match for the relentless wind, but our attention was fixed on the flamboyant figures awaiting where waves meet the sand. Their curved cutlasses were drawn, and I understood this would be a standoff with skulls and crossbones, as promised. But my cutlass was sharper!

The Curved Cutlass is an iconic weapon for any naval character or urban character connected to shady establishments at the harbours. The weapon is inspired by designs used during the Age of Sail, which forms the setting in most maritime novels. While a cutlass may fit perfectly in the hands of a pirate, it is worth noting that the versatile design allows application with a wide range of characters, such as bold buccaneers, stout seafarers, decisive dock workers or bodacious bandits. Wealthier characters might instead wield a Curved Sabre. Despite status and station, any decent cutlass should have a story (or several) regarding the acquisition of the weapon. Which ones will you tell the crew?

Having ranged weapons like small flintlock pistols that fire rubber bands is great and all, but what about when you just need the raw satisfaction of pistol whipping someone?

Who wears short shorts?

Mytholon's Franklin pants are perfectly suited for pirates or seamen.
These pants boast a straight cut and end just above the knees. The codpiece at the front hides the two buttons the pants are closed with, and it looks nice to boot. The codpiece is detachable. The waistband can be adjusted with a strap in the back. The belt loops at the waistband provide the possibility to wear a belt or a colourful strip of cloth. The pant legs each have a strip of five buttons that can be opened for more comfort.
