DETAILS
Epic Armoury’s Basic Tabard a sleeveless, open-sided garment worn over any outfit or set of armour. This particular tabard is made of medium cotton and is parti-coloured green and dark beige, inspired by Gothic style of the Middle Ages. Secure the tabard closed at the sides with cotton strings, and add one of Epic Armoury’s wide selection of leather belts to finish the look. Whether you are a one-man army wanting to stand out, or you are in a unit of soldiers and want to blend in, you will appear full of style, class, and distinction by wearing the Basic Tabard.
HISTORY
- Parti-coloured garments--where each vertical half of a garment was a different colour--was popular during the Late Middle Ages when fashion was intended to elongate the form
- Open-sided tabards became more popular with the military in the late 1500s
- Usually displayed a knight’s Coat of Arms on the front and back
- Used as a way to identify allies or enemies while on the battlefield
There are stories being told about you amongst the soldiers. You are the mercenary who has slain over a thousand men. You put fear in your enemies with one sweep of your weapon. Your aura of darkness freezes the hearts of anyone who looks you in the eye. And your favorite? Someone is saying you made a deal with a devil so that you may never die.
You strap your armour over your Imperial Gambeson, preparing for battle. You will never tell them which stories might be true, but they can see for themselves your battle prowess once you step onto the field and dominate once more.
DETAILS
This Epic Armoury Imperial Gambeson is a padded long-sleeve coat covering the torso from neck, down over the hips on front and back. It can be worn on its own or serve as essential padding under mail or armour. The gambeson is donned like a jacket and closed on the front with a system of cotton cords, allowing the wearer to customize the tightness of the fit. The arms are easily detachable by untying its cotton cords on the shoulders and sleeves, each cord secured through long-lasting brass eyelets.
Thick enough to serve as its own armour, this sturdy gambeson is constructed with heavy layers of fluffed cotton canvas sandwiched between dyed wool on the outside and softer cotton lining on the inside. All these layers are stitched together in vertical lines, keeping the padding in place and mimicking a classic European high-medieval style.
Though of European cut, gambeson or quilted-style armours have seen world-wide use since antediluvian times, making the Imperial Gambeson a great basic armour with a range of possibilities regardless of time and place.
HISTORY
- Quilted armours have been around since at least 400 BCE
- Used as padding under chainmail or plate armour
- Historically, a high-medieval European gambeson was recorded as being capable of stopping sword blows from penetrating the skin
- Could stop heavy arrows and mace and axe impacts with the addition of overlaying chainmail
- Specific style often worn by freemen, mercenaries, and other independent warriors
Your squire buckles the straps of your custom-fit armour, adjusting it to be comfortable and snug over your gambeson. Then you are handed your piece-de-resistance: the First Crusader sword. You paid top coin for this sword, and you expect people will be impressed when they see how it shines on the battlefield.
Your blacksmith assured you that the First Crusader’s design was both effective and awe-inspiring, and you’re one to agree. You are a mighty warrior, indeed, to be the owner of such fine craftsmanship. A fitting symbol of your godly-given status.
DETAILS
Epic Armoury’s First Crusader Sword is a beautiful latex blade inspired by high-medieval longswords. The sword is 110 cm long, with a 80 cm double-edged blade with an excellent reach. The blade features a fuller, making the weapon lighter and stronger. The broad and richly decorated crossguard protects the 20 cm ergonomically-shaped handle, which is wrapped in split-leather and long enough to be used one- or two-handed. The pommel is handpainted and sculpted to match the crossguard.
Made from durable closed cell foam around a fibreglass core and finished with a strong latex coating, you can feel confident that your LARP weapon will provide the safety and appeal you want when crafting your kit.
HISTORY
- Inspired by swords used during the High-Medieval era, which has become a classic fantasy design
- A fuller, or the groove that runs the length of the blade, was added to weapons to lighten the blade while adding structural strength
The sword sits in the baldric hanging down from your shoulder, faithful to its master despite the challenges. It has been a long and dusty road--and your uniform down to your Medieval Pants is covered in dirt and grime--but that sword has remained at your side through it all.
As your infantry unit comes to a halt, there is the tension one always feels before the fight. You resist the anxiety, because the moment you step into battle all of that must fade away. It will be you fighting alongside your fellow soldiers, and it will be the sword hanging in your trusted baldric that keeps you alive.

Pants. They go on your legs.
You tighten your belt another notch over your Basic Pants, frowning at the watered-down soup over the fire. It’s been a long winter, and you and your family aren’t sure you’re going to have enough food. As you consider ways you might be able to afford some meat--maybe you can do some work for a merchant in town?--there’s an anxious knock on the door.
“Raiders!” shouts the messenger on your doorstep. “Raiders are coming! Every able person is being called to fight!”
Suddenly an empty belly is the least of your worries.
